I remember once, our new student had difficulties holding the tea pitcher according to our teacher’s instruction because of her old habit.

She wanted to skip this in the class and said, “I will practise this at home.”

However, our teacher wanted her to adopt this new way of holding, worried that she would forget and kept using the old way if not doing this right in the class.

I looked at my hand and started to realise, this movement seems very easy, but could be challenging. To remove the old habit from our body is actually very difficult.

During the lesson, we kept looking at how she picked up this new movement. The tea pitcher was held up, then held down. This scene repeated many times.

Our teacher is very patient. The air is filled with hopes. All classmates were waiting to see a little butterfly emerging from her cocoon.

When people are stuck in the swirl, it’s not easy to climb out of it.

Learning tea ceremony is a self-discovery journey. We could understand what we couldn’t let go and what we must let go. Facing ourselves honestly will help us grow.

The butterfly will emerge.
